Pirates are privy to a broad range of skills, with each tree being culled from another career. This makes them adept at many aspects in PotBS, though this flexibility comes at the cost of true mastery in any particular tree. Even though this is the case, if used correctly Pirates can be a dominant force [...]

Trade skills come in behind Logistics as the most important skill tree to follow for a Freetrader. Speed boosts help players move their cargo further afield and Tax Evasion means structures in enemy ports won’t have such ludicrous tax rates imposed on them – more than useful to help swell the coffers. Before the Wind [...]
Ship Mastery skills contain a few useful combat perks, raising the player’s defense or lowering the enemy’s, as well as raising accuracy and damage in the final skill. This tree is probably more important that Provisions, though it still comes in as far less important than both Logistics and Trade. Hold Together (Rank 1 Skill): [...]

two main trees to follow for your skills, as both
offer the perks needed by Freetraders to
become truly effective.
